$2.8 million grant for the Desert Research Institute

The U.S. Department of Commerce on Monday announced a $2.8 million Economic Development Administration grant for UNR’s Board of Regents to build roadway infrastructure to serve Dandini Research Park, a facility that supports research and commercialization in clean technology, advanced manufacturing, information technology and life sciences.

The investment is expected to create 900 jobs and attract $4.6 million in private investment.

“The Dandini Research Park is the Reno-Tahoe region’s primary venue to attract companies in the sectors of clean energy technology, environmental science, advanced computing and life science,” said U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. “I look forward to this grant helping to spur job creation in Northern Nevada and allow collaboration with the private sector and educational institutions, such as the Desert Research Institute, the University of Nevada and Truckee Meadows Community College.”

The EDA investment funds roadway infrastructure that will allow for the development of the Collaborative Core and Upper Partnership Zone of Dandini Research Park.
